Gold Cup: Ticket to Ride![]() I know, it's been a while... but we finally got a chance to sit down and seriously look at the pile of games we got growing here. Happily, one of the perks of being in the game industry is that people who make games, send you their game to play and pitch to your customers. Ticket to Ride, however, didn't have to do a thing... it's been one our hottest sellers and I definately know why.
A dear friend of mine (from Finland actually) bought the game for me and my husband as part of a wedding gift. As you can guess this is due to the fact that we love games... anyway, sitting down with a few friends recently we were overwhelmed by just how neat this game really is!
The game is designed for 2-5 players but honestly, I had a ball with four of us. Play time is about an hour to two hours depending on how often you stop to laugh and munch on munchies. Oh yea, did I mention there is enough straegy involved in this game to keep anyone in your family interested but the colors and excitement should keep younger players thrilled too!
The premise of the game is pretty simple, you're in a contest to win some serious cash money and to win you need to cross North America via train. Every trainline you claim for your own, the closer you come to winning.
The board is beautiful, the pieces are high quality: sturdy plastic train pieces and wooden tokens for moving around the outer edge of the board. Even the cards seem to be well made and durable enough for little fingers that might not always be kind to your game pieces. The rule book is glossy and only about four or so pages long... happily (unlike some games we play around here) it doesn't take longer to read the book than to enjoy the game!
Over all there's not a bad thing any of the four of us could think to say about the game. Truthfully, it's probably my new favorite (at least until we find another good one in the pile) and it's definately at the top of my "great wedding gifts" list. Thanks Reetta, this one rocked!
So here's the golden tea cup to you Days of Wonder, great job!
